ASEAN’s Awards for Excellence in 2017

This annual award for excellent tourism activities in Southeast Asia (ASEAN) has chosen the winners for each category in 2017.

Held by Southeast Asia Tourism Association (ASEANTA), this award aims to honor the organizations and individuals who have contributed to the development and promotion of regional tourism products.

The 30th prize was held at the Borobudur Hotel (Jakarta, Indonesia) coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the founding of ASEAN.

Garuda Indonesia won the “ASEAN Best Airline Program” and “Best Cultural Preservation Effort”. The company is highly rated by the world’s best staff (ranked fourth in Skytrax ratings)

Garuda has applied the “Indonesian Experience” program to passengers, affecting the five senses with the prominent Indonesian cultural features.

Mount Bromo snapshots (Indonesia) of indigenous photographer Agung Parameswara won the “Best ASEAN Tourism Photo”. Bromo is a volcanic mountain in the massif of Tengger Mountain in East Java. At an altitude of 2,329 m, this is a famous sight for visitors to admire the majestic scenery and beautiful sea cloud as fairy.

The Singapore Airlines Magazine excelled in the category of “The Best ASEAN Travel Article” with many publications focused on the culture and landscape of Singapore, Southeast Asia and the world. Magazines not only invest in content but also in terms of image, bringing the audiences the close feeling about beauty of tourist attractions. This effort has brought the airlines this prize.

AirAsia with nonstop flights to 10 Southeast Asian countries was voted as the “Best Marketing and Promotion Campaign” category, thanks to “Think ASEAN, Think AirAsia” program. The company introduced the program with a photo and sensational essay on regional travel spots. The campaign was advertised on social media and Travel 3sixty digital channels, featured on the on-board food menu and video series on YouTube channel titled “Where must go and food must try in Southeast Asia”.

Shan Yoma Travel and Tours of Myanmar won the “Best ASEAN New Tourism Attraction” with tours for visitors to experience the beautiful scenery and cultural identity of Myanmar.
