The best time to visit

The best time to travel to Malacca is from December to April every year when the weather is comfortable to take part in outdoor activities. But you should consider because the time from the beginning of December to the end of January is Malaysia’s peak tourist season, coinciding with the big holidays like New Year, Christmas, and Lunar New Year. As a result, the travel cost, especially hotel price, transportation… is also rising and it is difficult to find good accommodation at a reasonable cost.

Transportation

Moving to Malacca

Because of this beautiful city about 150km from Kuala Lumpur, you have many ways to get there.

Bus

Once you get to Kuala Lumpur, you can take a bus to Malacca. Some bus company you can refer as Transnasional (pick point: KLIA 2 Airport), or you go to the station Bersepadu Selatan to buy ticket from companies like LA Holidays, Delima (this firm has the most trips to Malacca per day) or KPB Ekspress. The bus will stop at Melaka Sentral, from here you take the bus number 17 to the old town. Every 15 minutes, there will be a stopover in Dutch square with very cheap fare of 1.5 MYR (1 USD ~ 3.95 MYR)

Bersepadu Selatan Station

From Johor Bahru you can also buy a bus ticket to Lakin for 8 MYR and from here take another bus to reach Malacca within 3 hours.

Alternatively, you can also choose other means such as plane, train or taxi; however, it is not convenient as bus:

By plane: The Melaka Airport is located in Batu Berendam, 20 km to the North of city, connecting flights from Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

By train: The train will stop at Tampin Station, 38 km north of Melaka. From here, take a taxi to the center for about MYR 60

By taxi: This is probably the most expensive option, priced from MYR 254 for 1 – 2 hours of driving.

Moving in Malacca:

The heritage of Malacca is not so large, we recommend you take advantage of walking or bicycling (rent 3 MYR per hour) to both save money and improve health, just feel the pace of life, unique history and culture in this place. In addition, the must-try vehicle there is trishaw tricycle with vibrant music and eye-catching decorations of lovely dolls. The price is around MYR 50 / hour or MYR 20 for a one-way trip in the city but remember to bargain for a cheaper price.

The city also has taxis but we do not recommend it because of the price is reasonable (15 MYR / trip). Those who miss out on late arrivals from 1 to 6 am will have to pay 50% more for drivers.
