Bali is always the best attractions where many people want to spend their vacation on. In order to well prepare for your trip the first of all you have to do is finding the best place to stay during the travel. The list bellow will be the good suggestion for the cheap and nice hotel and motel.
For true backpackers: just 10$ a day
Yeah, you can still get a room for 150,000 rupiah a night in Bali (10 usd/eur or 15 aud). There are plenty of homestays run by local families that offer tourists a simple room for a very cheap price.
Most of budget local homestays don’t advertise online and you can’t book in advance. You should look for a room upon arrival.
Cheap accommodation obviously means that your room will be very simple, no A/C or hot shower, sometimes a shared bathroom. And don’t be surprised if you your room didn’t see renovation for a while 😉

The easiest way to find a cheap room upon arrival is definitely Kuta. Just head to streets Poppies I or Poppies II and there are plenty of homestays around that area. The most famous in Kuta is probably Suka beach inn. It’s old local hotel, with big garden and a pool. Very cheap for that kind of accommodation.
In Bukit there are cheap rooms right on the beach. Simple straw shacks in Balangan beach and you wake up hearing the ocean. Very simple accommodation, mattress on the floor and shared bathroom. Just ask in the warungs on the beach, they rent rooms to travellers. In Padang Padang there is Thomas Homestay with ocean view.
The longer you stay the cheaper is the prices. Don’t forget to bargain and ask for discounts if you stay longer than 2 weeks. Or rent for a month – it’s gonna be just 100$ or so.

What I like about Bali is that you don’t really need to go extremes with that 10$ accommodation. You can get yourself a nice room and still stay on the budget. Decent local guesthouses in Bali – small hotels owned by local families – usually charge you around 200.000-250.000 rupiah (20 usd/eur or 25AUD) per room and for that money you can get a rather comfortable place to stay. There are also expat owned guesthouses that are a bit moderner or have more unique design an they will be around 400.000-500.000 rupiah per night
Most of local guesthouses have different types of rooms – the ones with A/C and hot water, and the ones without. Elictricity is expensive in Bali and that’s why rooms with those amenities are usually more expensive. So it’s better to ask in advance what type of rooms are available.
Nowadays there are more and more guesthouses in that prices range that offer online booking and lots of them are available on booking.com, agoda or airbnb. But sometimes some really good & cheap gems are still missing there ;-/ And they can only be booked upon arrival.
Guesthouses that are affordable and run by local families can be a bit slow in terms of service. But balinese are nice people to deal with and very helpful if you need anything, so it’s always a joy to stay in a local guesthouse. When I travel around the island or go to surf trips I always stay in guesthouses. And it’s safe to stay there if you are wondering.
All the tourists areas have plenty of accommodation for that price range. In areas like Uluwatu or Padang Padang you can find a really nice bungalow for 30$. For this amount of money you can find a room almost everywhere in Bali, but Seminyak. Seminyak is extremely popular among tourists with money so most of the accommodation is overpriced. The further you are from Seminyak the better accommodation you can find for your money.
