Long Bien Bridge, crossing Red River, is one of the awesome spots off the beaten tracks in Hanoi. Although this bridge is not fabulous and shiny as the others, Long Bien Bridge touches people’s heart with its historical significance and classic beauty.  The construction of the bridge started in 1898 and it was completed in 1901. Besides Long Bien Bridge, the French also constructed a lot of other buildings in Vietnam during their colonial period like Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi, etc. The bridge is divided into three lanes: middle lane for rail, two side lanes for motorized vehicles and pedestrians. Particularly, traffic will go on the left side, not on the right side as normal. During Vietnam War, this bridge became one of the target for bombing of colonialists to cut the transportation from Hanoi to Hai Phong port. However, it can still survive and exists as a symbol of Hanoi. Coming here, you can enjoy the view, take some photos, and taste some local street food from vendors.

Another worth visiting off the beaten tracks in Hanoi is the train street. This street is located between Lê Duẩn and Khâm Thiên Street. This is one of the first places when the train leaving Hanoi train station to head for the South. The train goes through this street twice a day. The area is so narrow that it may be terrifying for the first look. The residents here have to make sure that the bikes, their belongings as well as their kids are all safe in their houses before the train passes. To get the best view, you can get there at 3 pm, remember to get your camera ready to take stunning pictures of the whole street. I’m sure you’ll love it!

The war between Vietnam and American is long gone but the remains of it are still preserved to remind people of the bad side of war, the solidarity as well as the iron spirit of Vietnamese people. Before Vietnam is completely independent, all of Hanoians stood together to protect the capital from the damage of B-52 in the battle “Dien Bien Phu in the air” in 1972. To see how it happened and what was left behind, let’s go and see the wreckage of B-52 in Huu Tiep Lake and take a look at the B-52 Victory Museum (157 Đội Cấn, Ba Đình district, Hanoi). The lake is about 20-minute walk to west of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and can be found easily on Google Maps as “Ho B52” or “Ho Huu Tiep, Ngoc Ha, Hanoi”.
