Different from the colourful jeeps used as public transportation in the Philippines, in Myanmar, the government allows people to use trucks to transfer people after banning motorcycle.
Unique transportation in the Philippines and Myanmar
Philippines: Manila (Philippines) is a city of many civilizations of transportation. However, the traffic jam is still the problem, as the result of that more and more people buy car leads to the explosion of cars. According to statistics, the Filipino people have bought nearly 300,000 new vehicles in 2015.
Charges Manila taxi is quite cheap compared to other countries in Southeast Asia such as Singapore, Malaysia, even Vietnam. However, the price of a taxi from the airport to the city is much more expensive. Normally, if you catch a taxi from the city to the airport, passengers will have to pay 150-200 pesos ($3.18 – $4.1), but in the opposite direction is 500-600 pesos ($10.45 – 12.72) and can bargain.
The Philippines also has shuttle buses and subway cars. However, the rail system in Manila is small, trains are more shabby than in other capitals of other Countries in Southeast Asia such as Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.
Express bus systems (speed) often run the long distance, with stop station which may be inconvenient for family travel.
Jeepney is the popular public transportation in Philppines. This car has similarities with Tuk- tuk in Thailand, Laos, they mainly are the old American jeeps which were renovated.
Jeepney usually runs from 6:00 am to 6:00pm follow a particular route. However, guests who want separate agreement are still able to rent cars in the evening.
Freight rate per capita is 8 pesos (about $0.19) for the first 4 km and 50 cents per km next. The body of the jeepney is renovated with two benches both side which can accommodate 20 guests at a time.
Shown in the picture is the Jeepney renovating factory named Sarao Motors Inc. Pulanglupa is well-known in Philippines, with about 5,000 m2 square, located in the Las Pinas city, about 30 minutes away by car from Manila.
In addition to taxis, busses, Jeepney, in Philippines, there is also other typical vehicle: tricycle (homemade tricycles). People in the Koronadal city, about 1000 km to the South of Manila capital, favour this vehicle as the main transportation and tourist shuttle.
Car rental for a tricycle is around 20 pesos / km (about $1). Visitors can see the cars in any corner in the territory of the Philippines, not just the city.
One of the public transport vehicles is the unique Habal Habal. This is a custom motorcycle, can carry 12 passengers. However, Habal Habal used only popular in Mindanao, used to transport people and bulky items.
Habal Habal has two benches on the both side, each seat accommodates 4 people. The rear saddle is stretched which is enough for three guests. Front, there is a seat for a child next to driver seat. Ticket prices are vary per trip, depending on the agreement between the customer and the driver. Do not be controlled by the state, there is no fixed price for this vehicle.
Myanmar: Starting in 2009, the Myanmar Government banned the people driving motorcycle in inner-city, to reduce overcrowding and congestion.
Yangoon is one of the cities in Myanmar have many differences in traffic compared to many other countries in the world.
Bus, passenger car remains one of the common transportation of the long journey. Passengers using this vehicle with no air conditioning can enjoy very cheap prices, but they have to suffer from cramped stuffy. Even there some people have stand at the way in, quite dangerous.
The most useful and popular vehicle is truck. The rear truck include two rows of seats accommodate 10-12 passengers, but drivers often carry the over number.
Most of the vehicles were overloaded. To save time, many young people accept cling or stuffy on it.
And whether standing or sitting, visitors still have to pay 200 kyats one plays ($0.16).
Also, dragging cyclo is also a popular vehicle in the inner city Yangon. Local people often use it to go shopping, or very close to the point, instead of having to waste time on walking.
Taxis can get along, piers, and the driver quite enthusiastic with tourists. They always suggest to the visitors when to go, where is most convenient to avoid congestion or missed flights.
Taxis in Myanmar have precise timer, but the majority of drivers charging visitors over time instead of distance run (one hour approximately 8,000-10,000 kyats).
At the urban areas, motorbike driver operate quite crowded. Due to the city banned motorcycles, they are only allowed to operate in urban areas.
