Built in 2014 with a total investment of nearly 60 billion VND, now the first observatory of Vietnam is completed and ready to be put into operation. The observatory has a cylinder shape with 5 floors and semi-spherical domes. On the top floor lies a 0.5m-diameter astronomical telescope designed and produced by Marcon, a famous Italian company. The telescope is equipped with cameras and high-resolution spectrum analyzers that allow visitors to observe variable stars.
Besides, this observatory also has a 60-seat projection room designed in a cosmic shape like a movie theatre, visually providing visitors with astronomic knowledge and celestial changes in the sky through visual effects in a 200m2 showroom. Together with Nha Trang, the second observatory is being constructed at Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, Hanoi, scheduled to start operations in this 2018.
Speaking at the ceremony and talking about putting this site in Nha Trang tours, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Pham Anh Tuan said: “Nha Trang Observatory is responsible for conducting basic research in astrophysics and disseminating knowledge of space science to the community, supporting to train, teach and improve personnel quality in the field of astrophysics and cosmology, cooperating with other research groups in the country and abroad.”
